enAble SriLanka (2026 Onwards)

For years, DLFF has been committed to building sustainable partnerships with the Sri Lankan Government, and enAble Sri Lanka is the result of that vision. This initiative is dedicated to enabling more children with disabilities to access government schools, not simply as a standalone programme, but as a strengthening and expanding force within Sri Lanka's national inclusive education system.

Many families across Sri Lanka face significant barriers in accessing Special Education Units, including distance, limited availability, and a lack of transportation. enAble Sri Lanka bridges this gap by reinforcing existing government structures and establishing new Special Education Units in schools located within underserved communities.

The project is grounded in rigorous research, community consultations, and close collaboration with Sri Lankan education authorities, ensuring that every step is locally relevant, evidence-based, and built to last.

Skilled Sri Lanka (Planned 2027)

Skills are the foundation of financial independence, and for people with disabilities, access to quality vocational training is not just an opportunity but a necessity. With that conviction at its core, DLFF has designed a revolutionary initiative called Skilled Sri Lanka, built in close partnership with the Sri Lankan Government to create the most effective and inclusive skills development system the country has seen.

Sri Lanka's Government already has a strong foundation in vocational training through national institutions. However, significant barriers continue to prevent many from benefiting. Training facilities lack accessibility for people with disabilities, trainers have limited knowledge and experience in working with PWDs, course offerings are often outdated and disconnected from the current labour market.

Skilled Sri Lanka addresses these gaps head on. DLFF is working directly with these government institutions to strengthen their capacity, modernise their approach, and make their services genuinely accessible and relevant.

Work & Income Project(2019-2026)

Creating dignified and sustainable livelihood opportunities is at the heart of DLFF’s Work and Income initiatives in the Eastern Province. Many persons with disabilities continue to be excluded from the local economy, and DLFF works to change this by building skills, opening pathways to income, and strengthening the systems meant to support them.

1. The Inclusive Society for Economic Development (ISED) Programme

Through the ISED program, adults with physical disabilities receive tailored entrepreneurship support that includes business training, market exposure, technical guidance, and essential livelihood assets.

2. The Family Business Programme

This initiative extends similar support to young adults with intellectual disabilities who have completed vocational training at the Dutch Lanka Special School.

Education Project(2012-2026)

Despite strong legal protections, many children with disabilities in Sri Lanka remain excluded from education. The Dutch Lanka Friendship Foundation (DLFF) is committed to changing this through inclusive initiatives like the Dutch Lanka Special School (DLSS) in Sri Lanka.
